ADL – Assisted Daily Living. Describes daily activities for caring for an individual such as bathing, toileting, feeding, and laundry. An example list is included in this checklist from PBS Caring for Your Parents.
IL – independent living, usually refers to a building such as a senior apartment home. Seniors are able to move independently without medical or assisted daily living.

RCFE – Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. In California, a division of the Community Care Licensing Division to oversee a building housing seniors with assisted daily living activities.

SNF – Skilled Nursing Facility, an intensive outpatient center with the ability to provide care above regulations of a residential care facility for the elderly or assisted living home.
